We are having a magnificent Saturday!! Since most of dinner was cooked last night and we didn’t make any plans today, we have been hanging out in bed with our 3 mutts binge watching The Handmaid’s Tale. This is good because I woke up a little on the hung over side this morning. This eating light during the week is making me a lightWEIGHT drinker! But at noon I grabbed our marinating little foghorn leghorn and threw it into the oven at 325 for 2 hours. Watched two more episodes and then came into the kitchen. Holy moly, it smelled AMAZING in the kitchen. Staci said it smelled so good she wanted to eat the air. I retrieved the pot from the oven and pulled out the chicken which I covered in foil and stuck into the other oven on warm. Strained the wine and reduced by a third and then threw the pork salt, onions and mushrooms in from the fridge.. My bad yesterday…lardon is not a name for bacon but the shapes that they were cut into before dicing. Julia leaves them that way, Alton does not. I consulted her recipe this morning, I don’t remember why now.
When I visited the bookstore this week, I made a total impulse purchase based on an amazing food picture on the cover of Epicurious magazine. It’s not a cheap magazine and I’ve actually never purchased it before. Man, I wish I had thought of the idea for that magazine! It’s just a bunch other people’s recipes remade and photographed. Photographed BEAUTIFULLY! So beautifully that it lured me into believing I could bake. So for dessert, while dinner was finishing, I made a cherry buttermilk clafoutis (gesundheit!). It’s kind of a cross between a buckle and a cobbler but very easy to make. However my pictures pale in comparison to theirs. It’s a neat looking dessert though. It comes out with all these little rivulet looking tunnels and more are created as it cools.
While that was baking, I threw the noodles on the stove and garlic bread in the oven. Threw the chicken on a plate (dark purple chicken does not photograph well either I must say) with some egg noodles and sauced up the plate. It was delicious!! With plenty of leftovers for tomorrow, yay me! So tomorrow there will be no blogging. I know, but you’ll find a way to go on I’m sure.
Staci is finishing up the kitchen as we speak but I’m trying to talk her into tasting the clafoutis first. She’s kind of a one track focused beast when she’s in there. She’s taking a bite. Now she’s bringing me one. Interesting. A little too much ginger for my taste and a little custardy when I was expecting cakey (I don’t know why I was expecting cakey) but good. Here’s a link to the recipe.
Now, back to The Handmaid’s Tale and maybe after awhile, a little hair of the dog that bit me! Have a wonderful weekend everyone and…
Happy reading, joyful cooking and spread the love!
