Happy New Year, everyone!
I hope everyone is as excited about 2018 as I am! Life is going to get pretty exciting and adventurous for me this year and I promise to keep you all posted as I enter challenging and unfamiliar terrain.
This blog’s focus will change a bit this year. While I will still be cooking (couldn’t stop if I tried), our meal focus will be much more healthy 80% of the time. I’m a big fan of the 80/20 rule. Because then you’re not really cheating, just indulging in the 20%! So we will be doing a lot of protein and veggies during the week. Booze is out for all but 3 nights a month so we mean business! We both need to get this extra weight off. I’m just not comfortable in my own body anymore and I don’t like how that feels. So healthier recipes to come.
Another reason this blog focus is changing is because of some projects I will be undertaking. My 2018 goals include 2 books and an e-commerce website that also benefits victims of sex-trafficking. This subject has really gotten my attention over the last year. I used to thing sex-trafficking happened in Asian countries, Mexico, etc. I had no idea it was so pervasive here in the United States but our young girls are literally disappearing before our very eyes. There are teenagers that were born into sex rings and have been trafficked literally since birth. This is beyond me. How did we get to this place as a country? The United States is supposed to be EVOLVED, for crying out loud! It breaks my heart and paralyzes me with fear for my precious niece who is 15. So I want to do something to help.
With that said, I know ZERO about setting up an e-commerce site and even less about channeling funds and supplies to charities. But I’m learning. Making phone calls, sending emails and listening to the vast silence that follows. BUT…these people don’t know me. They have no idea how tenacious I can be when I want something. And I want this. The idea came to me while Staci took a 3 hour nap one day. I was supposed to be napping too but instead I dreamed up an e-commerce site. I know my product, I know my audience and I know what I want to send to the victims. I even have a name for the site but the URL is taken. However it’s not being used so I’m trying to get the guy to give me the site as a charity tax write off for him. So far, only silence. So if anyone knows Scott Sanford in Charlotte, NC, feel free to nudge him for me.
All of this spawned from a word that kept coming to me during my morning bible study time. The word “intention” kept coming to mind. So I am claiming it as my word for the year. I’m going to try and watch my intention in everything I say (this will be a challenge because I usually only realize it AFTER the fact which is not as awesome) and my intentions in all I do. While my goal is to increase our finances this year, I only want to do that in ways that also benefit others. It feels pretty good to have that as a goal.
So that’s what’s in store for me this year. Pretty lofty goals, I know. Especially while working two jobs as well but I don’t feel anything I’ve set in front of myself is unachievable. I’m just going to keep it all covered up in prayer and what will be will be.
How can you help? I’m so glad you asked! Share this blog out. Everywhere. To everyone. Support me with encouraging comments. If you know someone who knows someone, let me know! I certainly can’t do this alone so any help or support would be amazing. Especially if I have to resort to something like a gofundme account. Networking is everything so share, share, share.
What’s on your plate this year?
As always, happy reading, joyful cooking and SPREAD THE LOVE!!
